On 24 June, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan Aurelijus Zykas presented his letters of credence to Japan's Emperor Naruhito.
On 31 May in Reykjavik, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Iceland Asta Radikaitė presented her letters of credence to the President of Iceland Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson.
On 12 May, the Human Rights Council convened a special session on the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine stemming from the Russian aggression.
On 4 May, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Darius Stanulis met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer. The main focus of the meeting was Russia‘s aggression against Ukraine and ICRC‘s activities in this context.
Today, on 21 April, the Acting Head of the Embassy of Lithuania in Moscow Virginija Umbrasienė was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and informed about Russia’s decision to withdraw its consent to the functioning of the Consulate General of Lithuania in St. Petersburg. All employees of the Consulate General and their family members must leave Russia's territory within 15 days.
On 5 April, Lithuania officially opened its Honorary Consulate in the province Limburg of the Netherlands. It will be headed by an active local entrepreneur and public figure Aloys Bruggeman.
On 4 April, the Ambassador of Lithuania to the United Arab Emirates Ramūnas Davidonis presented copies of his letters of credence to Abdullah Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Balouki, Assistant Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE.
On 9 March, the Ambassador of Lithuania Darius Degutis remotely presented his letters of credence to the Governor-General of New Zealand Cindy Kiro.
On 3 March, 45 states of the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), including Lithuania, following bilateral consultations with Ukraine, invoked one of the OSCE’s Human Dimension instruments – the Moscow Mechanism.
On 22 February, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania in Geneva Ambassador Darius Staniulis met with the Director-General of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) dr. Fabiola Gianotti. The meeting focused on cooperation between Lithuania and CERN especially in the field of science and research.
Forty six states, including all EU Members, have nominated the Belarusian Association of Journalists as candidate for the UNESCO 2022 Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.
As the situation does not improve, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania once again urgently calls on all Lithuanian citizens not to travel to Ukraine, while those who remain in Ukraine should leave immediately.
On 15 Frebruary, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania in Geneva, Ambassador Darius Staniulis, met with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Mr. Daren Tang. The meeting focused on cooperation between Lithuania and WIPO in the field of protection of intellectual property and promotion of innovation.
Due to possible air transport disruptions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Lithuanian citizens not to visit Ukraine and those in Ukraine to leave immediately. In addition, Lithuania currently also recommends its citizens not to visit Belarus.
At the 40th session of the Working Group of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on 9 February in Geneva, Lithuania offered human rights recommendations to Sudan.
